This past summer I had the amazing experience to help build a business from the ground up. Class 101 has specialized in helping high school students prep for the battle of college admissions since the 90's. They operate all over the United States by utilizing a franchise model, which is how they landed in Ashburn, VA.
I was given control of two accounts - Instagram and Facebook - and tasked to build them up from nothing. I learned how to schedule posts, write copy, schedule events, create PPC ads, and a whole slew of other skills during my time with Class 101 Ashburn. The nice part about being a franchise is that a lot of content is given to you already, such as the Class 101 branded SAT practice test post. However, I also got to play around in Canva for custom-made posts like the LCPS high school graduation posts.
My internship also introduced me to a variety of software I had never used before. I was able to play around with Thryv, Meta Business Suite, Eventbrite, and even the Class 101 Ashburn website. Working to make sure all of these were intertwined seamlessly was tough, but rewarding.
The time I spent at Class 101 is something I look back on fondly. It was my first time in a real office and doing something related to what I've been majoring in. My boss, Mike, was also a great pillar for me to lean on while I was there. Even though starting from scratch was hard work and overwhelming at first, I learned a lot about being a self-starter and the day-to-day of social media marketing.
This is part of a Facebook event post I created. Connecting the post with Eventbrite was something I had learned how to do for the first time here. I even got to proctor the practice exam!
To me, this is the quintessential "franchise post". Everything here, from the image to the caption, was provided directly to us by the Class 101 parent company .
Advertising these company-wide events was another part of my job in addition to advertising us locally.
