I love all things physical media. Among my trove of old tech, my favorite is and always has been my little CD player. I have a Sony ZS-SN10 Atrac3Plus (the government name is a bit of a handful), or my little Sony player for short.
Currently, I have over 100 CDs, meaning over 80 hours of music. I've been to record stores in London, California, New York, Virginia, Pennsylvania, and more. It's my favorite part of visiting a new city.
Part of the appeal of owning something tangible is that it feels more like mine than anything over the internet does. However, it really does fall short in comparison to the ease of use, depth, and portability of a music streaming site. Still though, there's something rewarding about searching through different states and countries for hours to bring home something that means a lot to me. I don't have to worry about it being taken away suddenly or becoming lost media overnight. In my opinion: if you really like something, consider making it tangible.
I don't just like collecting CDs. I also like to burn custom playlists onto discs with my MacBook for my friends or just for fun. Below are a few inserts I've digitally collaged together for various tapes. You can think of it as my CD portfolio!
Any Beatles fan will know that Everyday Chemistry is not a real album. I'll just leave a link explaining here. It's cool, trust me.
A lot of people think that going shows and concerts is an expensive hobby to have, but that's not necessarily true. Local shows will run you a few bucks at most and seeing smaller artists will net you about $20-40.
Showing up and supporting local artists is a great way to meet people who are already into similar things as you (assuming you're into that at all). Especially in smaller towns like Harrisonburg, it's a really fun close-knit community. Going somewhere knowing all your friends are there and being able to really connect with the music is a great experience.
This video was a mandatory part of the original site project requirements, but it's a quick little montage of shows I went to ranging from August of 2024 to March of 2025.
